Incorporated in 1939, Palos Verdes Estates is the oldest residential community on the peninsula. There are 849 acres dedicated as parkland which helps give it the reputation as a "garden suburb."
The Palos Verdes Homes Association helps maintain the community standards. Only a limited number of home sites remain in the community. Its founding father is considered to be Frank Vanderlip, one of a group of investors who purchased the 16,000 acres of peninsula land in 1913.
