Santa Barbara's heritage is apparent.
From the first visits by Spanish in the early 1600's and establishment of a
military fortress in the late 1800's, the influence is still seen today. The
combination of these factors have long made the region a favorite vacation area
for Southern Californians and a delight to those fortunate enough to reside
here.
Geography:
The county is divided by the San
Rafael Mountains into a north section and a southern section. The Pacific coastline
runs along the western edge of the county. There are forested mountains in the
east. In the central area are inland valleys where much of the wine grape growing
takes place. The long coastline attracts many visitors and is beautiful.
