Niceville was first known as Boggy. It is believed Boggy Bayou began sometime during the 1970's. The name was changed to Niceville on 5 November 1910. The origin of the name is unknown but some have ventured it was named for Nice, France, because of the similarities of location and climate. Others say the new name was to help people remember the area was much nicer after the swamps were drained.
