In the early 1700's Sandy Springs was settled by Quakers who were looking for a place to grow their crops. They built their meeting house near a spring in 1817 which led to the naming of the community for the spring. The U.S. Census Bureau has combined Sandy spring with the community of Ashton.

Ashton-Sandy Springs City Government

These two communities have been combined by the U.S. Census Bureau to create the Census-designated place (CDP) known as Ashton-Sandy Springs. The area is unincorporated and is governed by Montgomery County.
