History & History Related Items Weddington history: Weddington began as a small settlement in the mid 1700s. IN 1824, Reuben Boswell, donated acreage for the Sandy Ridge Methodist Episcopal Church. Later, his grandson, Reuben Boswell Weddington, also donated of his resources to both the church and the town. The church was renamed Weddington Methodist Church in 1899 and then the town was also renamed for him. At the time of incorporation in 1983, Weddington became known as the Town of Weddington.
