The climate for Henderson is arid, desert with 300 days sunshine each year. Summer temperatures may go as high as 115 degrees. This page gives some good tips for living in a desert climate. History & History Related Items Henderson history: In 1918, R.B. Jefferson was the lone resident of the area. When the Boulder Dam Bill was signed in 1928, he took good advantage of his location between Las Vegas and the dam site. He had already built a small building there in 1927, so in 1929 he and a partner, Mr. Bearden, subdivided a 40 acre parcel and named it Jericho Heights. An air strip was built here, one of the first in the county and many workers stopped in for “refreshments” at the end of their work days. In 1944, the Basic Townsite Post Office was opened. At this time the town was renamed Henderson for the late Senator, Charles B. Henderson. Here is a good history page for Henderson.
