History:
Cambria County was formed 26 March 1804 as Pennsylvania's 41st
county. The county was formed from the following other counties:
Somerset, Bedford & Huntingdon Counties
Surrounding counties: Armstrong,
Blair, Centre, Indiana, Westmoreland, Clearfield
The Johnstown Flood
A wall of water which some say was 60 feet high came out of the Little Conemaugh
River Valley on May 31, 1889 and crashed into the city of Johnstown. The center
of the city was mostly destroyed and thousands were killed.
