History & History Related Items Meadow history: The town was named because of the beautiful meadowlands created by the many mountain streams and marshlands to the west. The town began when four families settled on the ridge in 1857. They built dugouts initially and raied wheat. They left before the first winter and returned to Fillmore. Both the Meadow residents and those of Fillmore were worried about the troubles with the local Kanosh tribe. Once the threat was diminished, people returned to Meadow and the little town b egan to grow. When lack of water began to be a problem, the settlement was moved about a mile east to where it is now located. Water continues to be a limiting factor in growth. Agriculture and ranching are the main industries in Meadow.
