History:

A history page for Millard County. Here is more Millard County history information

Eastern Millard County was populated beginning in October 1851 when two groups left Salt Lake City. The first, led by Anson Call, created the first permanent white settlement. The other, which included Governor, Brigham Young and surveyor, Jesse W. Fox, went with the intention of selected a site for the territorial capital. They choose Fillmore which was near the geographical center of the Utah Territory. After only a few meetings in Fillmore, it was deemed to be too far from the major cities of the state. The capital was moved to Salt Lake City in December of 1856.

origin of county name: after President Millard Fillmore
