History & History Related Items Oak City history: Some of the ranchers from Deseret brought their cattle here to summer around 1860. By 1865, a settlement was begun. A sawmill was opened and a post office established. Until the post office opened, the town was known as Oak Creek, but the name of Oak City became official in 1868. During the days of polygamy in the LDS church, many sought a haven here. They were both welcomed and protected. Oak City attractions: Oak City Days - the third week of August every year to celebrate the founding of the city. There is always a parade with an ice cream social and then a program. Lots of games, fun, food and activities over a two day period. Return to Index
