History & History-related items
Fayette was settled in 1861, though it was first known as Warm Creek for the name of the little creek next to the new settlement. James Mellor and Joseph Bartholomew are credited with being the founders of the town. A group of five families came from Springville, but three families left soon afterward. Fayette was named for the city of Fayette, New York. Times were hard and the little community was abandoned but re-settled in 1866.
