History & History Related Items Leamington history: A few people left Oak City and began a new town they named Leamington for Leamington, England. The new settlers wanted to obtain new farm land. The first homes were built in 1873. In order to facilitate farming here, they new settlers began an irrigation project. They built ditches and took water from the Sevier River. They tried to dam the river, but were not successful. They had to dig their ditches several miles further than they expected because of this. By 1879, the railroad came through which not only brought new settlers, but also more new jobs. Many of todays residents are descendants of some of the early residents. Return to Index
