Chamber of Commerce.
Edward Hughes was appointed the first postmaster in 1816. He laid out the town and called it the Pleasant Plains of Damascus after the Biblical Damascus in Syria. The area grew quickly bringing new business as well as families. The town was incorporated from 1890 to 1914.
