The beginnings for Hampstead began back around 1737 when a new road was cut from Connewago (now Hanover) in Pennsylvania to a point in Baltimore County. The small village named Spring Garden became a stage stop on the road. This little town was later called Hampstead! The English came first through Philadelphia and then more settlers of Scotch and German descent began to live here. The Town of Hampstead was established in 1888.
