The Hashawha Tower
The Hashawha Tower is a windmill that was donated to the Hashawha Bear Branch Nature Center here. It is about 35 feet tall and there are pegs on the side to climb up on. There is a very small observation deck at the top, about 9 square feet. The tower is very stable, however, because it is bolted into the concrete below. It stands outside of the Algonquin Building, in the parking lot.

Westminster Historical Events

1865, April
In April 1865, Joseph Shaw, newspaper editor, had his presses wrecked and his business destroyed, and was subsequently beaten and stabbed to death by four men in Westminster, allegedly because of an anti-Lincoln editorial that was published the week before the actual assassination. In a later trial at the Westminster Court House the four men were acquitted; the reason cited was "self-defense."
