History & History Related Items
Manchester was settled around 1760 and later incorporated in 1833. What is now Manchester was once a crossroad of two important Indian trails. One of the routes became the first public road in the county in 1737. A new settler from England, Captain Richards, came in 1765 after receiving a land grand called New Market. It ran along this new road and he realized it was a good location. He named his new town for his hometown in England - Manchester.
