Location

Potomac Heights location: in southern Maryland about 15 miles from Dale City, Virginia. Other nearby communities include Indian Head, Bryans Road, Fort Belvoir, Bennsville and Accokeek all in Maryland and Mount Vernon and Woodbridge both in Virginia.

Potomac Heights history:

The town was originally owned by the Government but in 1947, the residents created a co-operative and bought the community from the government. At the beginning the homes were built from 1940 to 1943 to house defense workers. As a co-operative, prospective residents must apply and be accepted for membership before being allowed to move in.
