St. David was named in honor of David Patten Kimball. He was the presiding LDS Church authority in the area, from 1881-82.

1918
The local public school's main building was completed in 1918. It is one of the oldest standing structures in the area. The St. David School District is also the oldest in the San Pedro Valley.
