The name for Parlier came frm the Parlier family that moved here in 1876 from Illinois. They began a general store and trading post that also served as the area post office. It quickly became the center of town. Agriculture was important to the area with many small family farms. Wheat was the first main crop. Later came grapes and raisins as well as other fruit. Parlier was incorporated in 1921.
